The Characteristics Of A Theatrical Documentary Production

Posted on April 20th, 2012 by Rosalind Estes

Documentary theatre is a unique and fascinating way to address social and political issues on stage. This type of theatre uses raw data, often acquired from news sources and interview transcripts. These texts, generated by the people who took part in the actual event, form the script of the play. As the play text does not distort or embellish this information in any way, a theatrical documentary production falls under the category of verbatim theatre.

These shows take place on stark sets with few colors and details. They attempt to direct the audience’s attention to the words of the actors, instead of the aesthetics of the stage. Actors speak directly to audience members, treating them as part of the performance. Often, the actors will play a variety of roles, offering varying and contrasting perspectives of the same event.

In Germany in the 1920′s, Bertolt Brecht and Erwin Piscator developed this type of theatre. These directors explore the relationship between theatre and social change. They wanted to steer plays away from the realm of emotional involvement, towards more detached viewing practices. Techniques such as ‘alienation’ helped audiences to engage critically and intellectually with the play.

Brecht and Piscator did not want audiences to be passive. They wanted their plays to ignite audiences and encourage social revolution. Documentary productions often seek to encourage dialogue and debate among viewers. It has also proven to be a useful teaching method, encouraging students to interrogate historical events.

Such shows abolish aesthetics for the factual. Directors and playwrights try as much as possible to stick to the original source material. But, there is much criticism surrounding this treatment of fact and fiction. Many theorists argue that it is impossible for one show to be entirely unbiased.

In 2000, a collective called the Tectonic Theatre Project staged the play, the Laramie Project. This show consisted entirely of interviews conducted with residents of Laramie, Wyoming, USA. These conversations addressed the brutal murder of Matthew Shepard, who was the victim of a homophobic-driven hate crime. It allowed audiences to engage critically with the subject matter. This theatrical documentary production proved to be crucial in allowing audiences to grapple with a very sensitive, and significant issue.

Some Factors Which Make For Good Political TV Spot Production

Posted on April 19th, 2012 by Melody Lyons

When political TV spot production goes well then there are few more effective means of communicating a campaign message directly into someone’s home. For the same reason, it can also be a disastrous way of making a mess of an otherwise effective campaign, if handled in a shoddy or amateurish way. For this reason, it often pays to employ professionals in this field.

The most important factor to consider is clear communication, both in terms of the message and the specifics of the script. Badly worded speeches haunt failed candidates for a long time. Equally, making factual errors provides east prey for opponents to use in their own campaigns.

Professional production values matter to any kind of television production, but they are especially important to political campaigns. Budgets are often tight during campaigns, especially at local level, but it is unwise to use anything which looks cheap when it comes to communicating with voters. Voters tend to appreciate their representatives looking professional, and obviously cheap advertising has the opposite effect.

Not all good ideas are expensive, of course, and imaginative ideas can often be handled very inexpensively. The key though is imagination, and truly original ideas can prove very effective. However, basics such as clear and concise language are more important than flashy gimmicks.

What people wear is also very important, and the clothing of anyone featuring in the broadcast should be appropriate for the message being communicated. Voters will expect their candidates to look professional and serious, like they care about winning the election. Fancy dress is not a good idea, unless there is some kind of well-prepared stunt being planned.

The fundamentals for good political tv spot production are clear communication and professional presentation. Onto these basics, more imaginative features can be attached, communicating clear message about the campaign or candidate. When done well, a television broadcast can exert a drastically positive impact on the outcome of an election.

Grow Jamaica Struggles On Despite Positive Research

Posted on April 15th, 2012 by Mayra Roman

Since its concept, Grow Jamaica has been been plastered on social networks, been on the big screen and in paper back. The creator of this concept was Reverend Leroy James Campbell. Many may agree with the idea but hands are tied with red tape and most doubt something will ever come to fruition.

The Reverend was not some dope head with a pipe attached to his lips all day. He was a follower of god, an established creative, health and fitness Guru, a researcher and herbalist on the effects of marijuana on people physically, mentally and spiritually. His fight mainly was to concentrate on what the plant could do for the country economically, politically and legally. He wholly believed that it was a source of food, fuel, fiber and medicine and could rise his country up from poverty and social ills.

His strife was to legalize cannabis because of its diverse uses and extremely beneficial medicinal properties. His website continues to spread his word and bust myths that marijuana causes loss of memory and is detrimental to the body. Other than its healing elements it does wonders for the earth, it is easily grown in most soils, it is hardy and is undeterred by weeds.

Extensive research has gone into the effects of THC, such as how it aids cancer patients during radiation treatments in reducing nausea and vomiting. It also increases the appetite and aids in sleeping. Research has shown that three compounds in the marijuana plant helps reduce and control seizures in epilepsy.

Hemp, which is part of the cannabis family, has as many attractive qualities. Hemp seeds and hemp oil have fiber, protein and essential fatty acids and far outnumber any other food in nutritional content. Hemp biodiesel is made from pressed hemp seed oil and Hemp ethanol/methanol is made from the fermented stalk. One of the main reasons why Jamaica will not legalize hemp either is that it is too close to marijuana and that could just confuse too many authoritarians.

grow Jamaica is about how the people of the country will benefit and not necessarily about legalizing a drug to enjoy for entertainment reasons. The people that are not in the shoes of the poor have far too often overlooked the pros surrounding cannabis. This is a struggle that undoubtedly will continue for a long time but it will still be fought.

Posted on March 22nd, 2012 by Petra Berg

People’s opinions on movies, do differ. Few people can even agree on what they consider to be the best comedies. What most people can agree on though is what makes the films they enjoy good. An important aspect of any movie is how realistic it is. This is doubly true for comedic titles because if the audience can’t get past the character’s unbelievability, they will never be able to sit back and enjoy the movie. Learnings From Caitlin Beadles

Posted on March 10th, 2012 by Chris Landerberg

There has been a lot of news surrounding Caitlin Beadles over the last few years, and some of it has been nearly tragic. She has received some publicity for dating Justin Bieber in the past, although that is over now. The tragic news was that she was in a boating accident that was almost bad enough to take her life. In fact, she was actually pronounced dead on the way to the hospital when her heart stopped beating. However, she was revived thanks to the heroic efforts of the doctors, and has now mostly recovered from her injuries.

What happened was simply a fluke, a case of her falling in the water and the driver of a boat not looking where he was going at a crucial moment. The boat went over her, and the prop opened a gash in her leg that required 6000 stitches. She was taken from the water quickly, but her friends and family members were unsure of what to do for her. They called for help and did what they could to stop the bleeding before the paramedics arrived. Caitlin fought valiantly for her own life, and that is the only reason that she survived.

The road to recovery was not easy for her. The stitches closed the wound to her leg, but it took a long time for it to really heal. After that, she had to undergo physical therapy so that she could walk again. This was a grueling process that was very painful. Her body needed to heal, but she also had to test it by forcing herself to walk and to work out with her trainers. Even professional athletes have trouble doing things like this, and they are used to a certain amount of pain and physical stress.

When you look at the whole story, there are many things that can be learned from what happened to Caitlin Beadles. She struggled more than many people ever will. She was hurt badly and then was pronounced dead before she could get to the hospital, and yet her fighting spirit won out. She was told that walking would be something that would be very difficult, and again she conquered the obstacle before her. She knew what she wanted and she would not let anyone or anything stand in her way. Through everything, she battled to achieve her goals and to reclaim the life that she wanted.

If anyone thinks that they are going through a difficult time, they should look to Caitlin for inspiration. They should see how she proved that people can be successful at almost anything if they show dedication and passion. Often, doctors say that the people who are dedicated to surviving are the ones who survive. It can really be that simple. This is a lesson that can be extrapolated to other parts of life as well. Those who are dedicated to anything are those who are going to succeed. This is what people should learn when they hear her story.

Caitlin Beadles has been a very good networker. See her videos on Keek.

Uses Of An LED Softbox In Photography

Posted on January 12th, 2012 by Angelique Mcneil

An LED softbox is a piece of equipment used to help remove unwanted white spots on the subject of a photograph. It is made using a white material through which the LED light inside the back passes through. When taking pictures of highly reflective objects using a flashbulb, a lot of glare appears. Boxes control light by softening it so that there is little or no glare in the resulting picture.

A bank of LED’s, Light Emitting Diodes, are used in the rear of some boxes. LED’s are small and emit a whiter light than other types of lighting. Many LED’s are used to make a bank of them for use in box’s.

Boxes are made using a reflective material, such as aluminum, on the inside. A white fabric is used to cover the front. The reflective material concentrates the light from LED’s through the fabric on the front. This creates a softer light than a flashbulb does.

A small light in the back of a box will appear as a much larger light source and will widen the area of light. When it is aimed towards the subject, the background and other objects in the viewing area become less defined. The main subject of the picture becomes the focal point.

When a box is moved closer it brings the subject to the forefront and takes away hard shadows. When the box is moved further away, a wider area of light is obtained. Relocating the box helps the photographer get the result wanted in that particular picture.

An LED softbox is not very heavy, making it easier to move around than other, heavier lighted box’s. LED’s use less energy then standard light sources. They do not generate a lot of heat and, therefore, take away any worry about heat damage during use.

Where A Hip Hop Artist Typically Started

Posted on December 8th, 2011 by Farah Fan

Hip hop artist Jamaican born DJ Clive “Kool Herc” Campbell is credited to be highly influential in the pioneering stage of hip hop music in the Bronx, after shifting to New York at the age of thirteen. Herc came up with blueprint for gangster rap music and culture by building upon the Jamaican tradition of toasting impromptu, boastful poetry and speech over music which he observed as a youth in Jamaica. Herc and other DJs would take advantage of the power lines to connect their equipment and perform at locations such as public basketball courts and at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, Bronx, New York, a historical building where hip hop was given birth to. Their equipment was composed of numerous speakers, turntables, and one or more microphones. By using this technique DJs could create a selection of music. DJ Kool Herc is attributed as being highly important in the pioneering stage of gangster rap music.

Herc have also been the developer of break-beat deejaying, where the breaks of funk tracks the part most suited to dance, usually percussion-based were isolated and repeated for the purpose of all-night dance parties. This form of music playback, using hard funk, rock, and records with Latin percussion, created the basis of hip hop music. Campbell’s announcements and exhortations to dancers would lead to the syncopated, rhymed spoken accompaniment now known as rapping. He dubbed his dancers break-boys and break-girls, or simply b-boys and b-girls. According to Herc, “breaking” was also street slang for “getting excited” and “acting energetically”. Herc’s terms b-boy, b-girl and breaking became part of the lexicon of gangster rap culture, before that culture itself had developed a name.

Later DJs such as Grand Wizard Theodore, Grandmaster Flash and Jazzy Jay refined and created the usage of breakbeats, including cutting and scratching. The approach used by Herc was soon widely duplicated, and by the late 70′s DJs were releasing 12″ records where they would rap to the beat. Well-liked tunes included Kurtis Blow’s “The Breaks” and The Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight”.

Emceeing is the rhythmic spoken delivery of rhymes and wordplay, delivered over a beat or without accompaniment. Rapping hails from the griots (folk poets) of West Africa, and Jamaican-style toasting. Rap created both inside and outside of hip hops culture, and began with the street parties thrown in the Bronx neighbourhood of New York in the 1970s by Kool Herc and others. It originated as MCs would talk over the music to promote their DJ, promote other dance parties, take light-hearted jabs at other lyricists, or discuss problems in their places and issues facing the community as a whole. Melle Mel, a rapper/lyricist with The Furious Five, is often credited with being the first rap lyricist to call himself an “MC”.

Hip hop as a tradition was further defined in 1982, when hip hop artist Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force launched the seminal electro-funk track “Planet Rock”. Instead of simply rapping over disco beats, Bambaataa created an electronic sound, enjoying the rapidly improving drum machine Roland TB-303 synthesizer technology, as well as sampling from Kraftwerk.

Hip hop music was first discovered during the seventies. In order to become a famous Hip Hop Artist one must sing out well, possess the right point of view, and even more importantly know how to dance. Becoming a New Hip Hop Artist is not an easy career. It definitely needs a great deal of hard work, motivation, and dedication.

When someone criticizes a child and tells them that mum or dad does not look like that, it can end a child’s art interest early. The only time they will try again is when they can copy something accurately. That is why many people are better drawing from a picture, but not from the world around them. When a person is not bothered by what other people say and want to make their own representation of art, it is another step. Practice is crucial for an artist who should keep drawing no matter what anyone says. Film school helps people to gain a career in the industry.

Information Concerning Professional Audio Mixing

Posted on November 20th, 2011 by Bernadine Wilkins

Professional audio mixing is utilized in sound editing and recording. On top of these, this is also utilized in sound systems in order to limit the approximate signal levels from a few signal sources, usually the various band instruments.

Even sound engineers perform this at times. Whenever a public address setup is used, this is frequently performed at rock concerts and musical performances. In general, a gig is composed of two mixers.

One is located at the side of the stage, while the other one can be found in the public so that the PA heard by the public will be mixed. The one placed at the side of the stage is utilized to mix the monitor speakers situated straight in the frontal area of the players to make it possible for them to hear the other group members.

On the other hand, this can also be a piece of multiple track recording and can be done in studios. This is done so that sound recordings will be produced for the release of Compact Disc or as piece of a television or film program.

A console or a desk may be equipped with more than one control such as sliding or revolving knobs, one for each sound medium. Every medium of the console may be equipped with other particular constricted frequencies or balance the sound signal that is incoming.

More complex or larger consoles like those utilized in television and film production can have numerous channels. These may be automated in order for the activity of the console’s controls to be done automatically. This one is very different from that of a piano player.

Professional audio mixing is also known as DJ blending. This is done by blending the end of a pre-recorded song into another in order to carry out a seamless transition. This is also referred to by a lot of people as beat-mixing or beat-matching. professional audio mixing
